ABOUT
What is Medcorder?
A patient app to record consultations.

Medcorder is a smartphone app available for both iOS and Android that lets a patient - with your permission - record all or part of your consultation. The recording is securely saved to a private cloud and a transcript is automatically added. Patients can set up a chat room with their loved ones to which these recordings are immediately shared and can be discussed in order to help keep the informal care team "in the loop". The data are clear that patients understand and retain only a fraction of what you tell them, but an app like Medcorder can help with this - at no cost to your practice nor any additional work for you to perform. As a physician, you do not install and run the app - this is not another unbillable way for patients to reach you or another tool for you to have to learn and adopt.

BENEFITS
Recording is good for doctors
Improves Care
Helps your patients follow your treatment recommendations. Likely to increase adherence to medication directions and other instructions.
Improved Patient Satisfaction
Your voice stays with the patient and is a reminder of how much you care and how much you are helping them.
Reduces Your Workload
Fewer calls fielded by your office to repeat explanations to patients and their families, since they can revisit your guidance at any time. This comes at no cost to you or your practice and is free for patients.
Clarity for Informal Care
Informal care teams such as a patient's loved ones can hear directly in your own words your guidance for a patient without having to "play telephone" and guess at what you might have said through the patient's notes or interpretation.
Better care for your patients at no cost and no new tools to learn and adopt.
BENEFITS
Recording is good for patients
It helps me remember.
As a patient, I'm often confused by the specific terminology used by my doctors to describe my conditions and what I'm supposed to do. Being able to literally replay the conversation in the days following the visit helps me remember and understand what my doctor said.
No more "telephone".
After an appointment, I'm asked "What did the doctor say?" Now I can let me loved ones hear exactly what the doctor told me almost as soon as I've heard it. We can all work together to figure out what to do and get the best outcome.
It's free and easy to use.
The app and service don't cost anything and are beautifully designed; I don't have a lot of time to learn fancy new tools but this app works just like the other chat apps I've used.
It's secure.
I appreciate that my private data stays private with the application.

Regulatory Information
Recording
We respect a doctor's right to choose; Medcorder is the only audio recording application we are aware of that explicitly asks for consent from all parties in the room before every recording begins. We strongly believe it is in the best interest of both the physician and the patient to have a recording of consultations. In 11 of 50 states, consent is required from all parties whose speech is being recorded.
HIPAA
While Medcorder is not subject to HIPAA (as no electronic information is received from any Covered Provider nor under BAA), we take our custodian role seriously and are undergoing voluntary compliance with the same sort of standards to which we would be subject if we were covered by HIPAA. Our users trust us to maintain the security and privacy of their confidential protected health information (PHI).
Privacy
We believe strongly that users should never be surprised at what happens with their private data, which is why we have a robust privacy policy available at https://medcorder.com/privacy
Security
Our small and trusted team uses a combination of hardware two-factor authentication with security keys, secured & limited endpoints, and a limited backend attack service by using serverless architecture that runs on top of and leverages best security practices from Google Cloud. Despite only being founded in February 2019, we've already engaged the services of third party security auditors to help us continually evaluate and improve our security stance.
